In a joint news conference with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, US Secretary of State John Kerry, outlined a new framework which involved the handing over of Syria's arsenal of chemical weapons.
The outlined agreement called for Assad's regime to hand over of all chemical weapons and the consequent destruction of them by mid 2014.
The Syrian government were given a week to hand over a list of a list of its stockpile of chemical weapons.
Warning of military action should Syria fail to comply Kerry stated,
"There can be no room for games, or anything less than full compliance by the Assad regime. If diplomacy fails then the united states is prepared to act."
