North East Coordination Committee meets Indian Deputy High Commissioner to Sri Lanka

Following a hundred-day protest for a political solution to Tamil demands, the North-East Coordination Committee met with the Indian Deputy High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Rakesh Natraj Jayabaskaran, to discuss the grievances of Eelam Tamils.

Representatives of the North-East Coordination Committee maintained that the discussion was fruitful. The protests attracted a diverse array of demonstrators, including the youth, the elderly and civil society actors, all of whom called for the democratic right to self-governance. Speaking to reporters one protester maintained;

"Devolution is a democratic right to the North Eastern Provinces. The 13th Amendment constitutionally guarantees the right to devolution".

The hundred-day protest was carried out in 8 districts across the North-East and ended on 8th November.
