A temporary police checkpoint in Maniyanthottam, Jaffna was set ablaze by unknown persons on Wednesday.
The checkpoint was set up to tackle allegations of illegal sandminbng and drug trafficking in the area, but was not permanently occupied.
The structure was completely burnt down on Wednesday night when no police officers were on duty at the checkpoint.
