‘ISIS military plan and Kuwaiti army uniforms’ recovered claims Sri Lankan military

The Sri Lankan military claimed to have recovered several weapons, Saudi Arabian and Kuwaiti identity cards and an ISIS military plan in a series of raids carried out across the island this week.

The army’s official military website claimed that search operations continued as security remains ramped up in the wake of the Easter Sunday attacks last month.

In Thihariya, in the Western Province, the Sri Lankan army claimed to have recovered an “ISIS military plan” alongside army uniforms, Saudi Arabian identity cards and two National Thowheed Jamath (NTJ) books.

In other areas the military claims to have found Kuwaiti identity cards, Kuwaiti army uniform, hand grenades, shotgun cartridges, binoculars, heroin and “several other warlike items”.

A total of 63 suspects were arrested in the recent operations, the military added.

The step-up of security was spearheaded by Sri Lanka’s president Maithripala Sirisena, who vowed to search every household in the country. Sri Lanka's parliament passed an extension of the state of emergency currently in place since the Easter Sunday bombings earlier this week, granting the state's security forces additional powers, have been used to carry out widespread search operations, detentions, and arrests.
