India's army chief, Manoj Mukund Naravane, arrived in Colombo today at the invitation of Sri Lanka's army commander, and accused war criminal, Shavendra Silva as part of a "goodwill tour".
The visit follows meetings between Sri Lanka's President, Gotabaya Rajapaksa, and India's Foreign Secretary, Shri Harsha Vardham Shringla, where the two discussed increasing military training for Sri Lankan troops in India. During the meeting, Rajapaksa further pushed for a policy of "neutrality" within the Indian ocean and claimed that Sri Lanka would never jeopardise India's security.
Naravane is reportedly set to have a courtesy call with accused war criminals Shavendra Silva, Kamal Gunaratne, as well as both the President and Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Gotabaya and Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The Indian army chief is also expected to make a floral tribute at the IPKF memorial in Sri Jayawardenepura before he proceeds to the Army Headquarters. This also comes as India and Sri Lanka's military conducted joint military exercises in Amparai.
