A commemorative event honouring artists whose works contributed to the Tamil liberation struggle was held in Switzerland with the 11th edition of the Ezhuchikkuyil 2026 Tamil Eelam patriotic song competition.
The event, held in the Canton of Bern on May 8, 9, 23 and 24, paid tribute to 72 artists whose songs and artistic contributions were associated with the Tamil liberation movement. Floral tributes and respects were offered before portraits of the late artists during the programme.
Organisers stated that the event was conducted in remembrance of all artists who strengthened the Tamil liberation struggle through their creative work and music over the years.

The competition, which was held at a European level for the first time, attracted 92 participants competing in six categories. Contestants performed songs released throughout different stages of the Tamil liberation struggle, spanning from its early years to the present day.

According to organisers, the performances by young participants born and raised in Europe reflected a strong engagement with the musical and cultural legacy associated with the Tamil struggle.

The event concluded with awards being presented to winners across the various categories, while organisers also acknowledged the contributions of judges, musicians, teachers, parents and volunteers who supported the programme.
