Eid al-Fitr celebrations in the North-East

On April 22nd, many Muslims in Vavuniya and Mannar celebrated Eid al-Fitr, the religious holiday marking the end of Ramadan.

Several mosques in the area held special services that brought together many believers.

The day began early, with the service at the Pattanichoor Mohideen Mosque starting at 7:10 am. The mosque's Moulana led the service, which included prayers and readings from the Quran. Afterward, the attendees exchanged greetings for Eid, with many embracing each other and expressing happiness at being able to celebrate the holiday together.

Security measures were in place around many of the mosques in Vavuniya.

In Mannar, Eid was celebrated at the Jummah Mosque on Moor Street at 6:45am for men and 7:30am for women.

Eid al-Fitr is an important religious holiday for Muslims around the world, and its celebration marks the end of the month-long period of fasting, prayer, and reflection known as Ramadan. For many believers, Eid al-Fitr is a time to come together with friends, family, and community members to celebrate the end of the fast and the start of a new month. The holiday also emphasises the importance of charity and helping those in need, with many Muslims giving gifts and food to the less fortunate during this time.

The Eid al-Fitr celebrations in Vavuniya were a time of joy and reflection for many local Muslims. Believers were able to come together to mark the end of Ramadan and share in the holiday's traditions, despite the ongoing economic crisis.
