ECJ overrules asset freeze on Iranian firms

The European Court of Justice has ruled that the European Union should unfreeze assets held by several Iranian banks and other businesses as there was insufficient evidence that the firms were involved in nuclear proliferation.

Post Bank Iran, Iran Insurance Company and Export Development Bank of Iran are some of those hit by sanctions.

The sanctions, imposed by the US and the EU were designed to put pressure on Iran over its nuclear programme.
