China to fund UK nuclear power plant, pledges to cooperate with world on human rights

The China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGN) reached a deal with the mainly state owned EDF  Energy for a new nuclear power plant in Somerset on Wednesday.

The deal will see the Chinese corporation pay a third of the cost for the new power plant which is expected to cost £18bn.

The Chinese premiers 4 day visit to the UK is expected to see over £30bn worth of deals finalised between the two nations, reports the BBC.

China also agreed to refrain from using cyber-espionage to steal commercial secrets from the UK reports the Guardian.

Speaking at a press conference alongside his Chinese counterpart, UK Prime Minister David Cameron said that he had raised the issue of Human Rights with China.

China’s premier Xi Jinping, said,

“Coming to the human rights issue, China attaches create importance to human rights. We have found a path suited to China’s conditions. There is always room for improvement in the world. China is ready to increase co-operation with UK and other countries over human rights.”
