Cameron to approach Sri Lanka with 'tough message'

David Cameron  outlined, in a meeting with Burmese opposition leader Aung Suu Kyi, that he would travel to Sri Lanka with a “tough message” for the Rajapaksa regime.

During his meeting with Aung Suu Kyi, explaining his decision to attend CHOGM, he said,

“My decision is the right thing for us to do… and have some very tough conversations with the Sri Lankan Government.”

“I am not happy with their human rights record. I’m not happy with what they’ve done following the conflict and we’ll have some very frank conversations to make those points.”

Suu Kyi, also stated that, Cameron should,

“engage all other stakeholders, and not just the government.”

Cameron is expected to visit the North-East during his visit, and meet members of the Tamil National Alliance, who have offered to host his visit to Jaffna.
