Bus crashes into a train in Mannar; 14-year old student dies and over 20 injured

A bus crashed into a moving train bound from Anuradhapura to Talaimannar on Tuesday causing an accident leaving a 14-year old school boy dead and 25 people injured. 

The accident took place around 2.00 PM following which the injured were rushed to the District General Hospital, Mannar in an ambulance.

Those who were injured were rushed to the hospital. The hospital administration issued a request calling on people to donate blood as they faced a shortage.

The Mannar police are currently investigating the reasons for the accident although the public complained that it was their negligence that caused it the accident.

Mannar residents allege that no security official had been on duty at the railway crossing whilst the accident happened and no one put a halt to road traffic as the train passed through the area. 

The railway crossing falls under the purview of the Mannar police and residents complain that the person who had been deployed and remunerated at the site by the police was not present during the accident. 

Mannar residents ascribed the accident to the negligence of the police and are demanding that the police should be held accountable for it.
