In a survey of 10,000 men from six countries, rape was found to be most common within relationships although one in 10 men admitted to raping someone other than their partner. Just under half of those who admitted rape also admitted to doing so more than once.
In Papua New Guinea, 62% of those surveyed admitted to rape. In Sri Lanka, 14.5% said they had committed rape.
Of those who admitted rape, almost three quarters said they did so out of “sexual entitlement”.
Dr Emma Fulu, author of the report explained:
"[The men] believed they had the right to have sex with the woman regardless of consent.”
"The second most common motivation reported was to rape as a form of entertainment, so for fun or because they were bored."
