UN weapons inspectors in Syria have called for a truce, in order for the Syrian government's chemical weapons arsenal to be destroyed by the deadline.
Speaking to reporters at The Hague, Ahmet Uzumcu, the head of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, said the deadline for destroying the weaponry was "extremely tight", but was possible if truces were agreed.

"I think if some temporary ceasefires can be established, I think those targets could be reached,"He went on to praise the Syrian government, adding,
"Much depends on the situation on the ground, that's why we have urged all parties in Syria to be cooperative,"
"The elimination is in the interest of all."
"The cooperation with Syria has been quite constructive. The Syrian authorities are cooperative."
