Vaiko, the general secretary of the Tamil Nadu political party, the MDMK on Tuesday urged the United States to reconsider its decision support the Sri Lankan government undertaking a domestic probe into mass atrocities against the Tamil people in 2009, the New Indian Express reported.
Following a protest on Tuesday against the US' support for a domestic probe, Vaiko said that the US Consul General declined to meet with him.

“Tamils have been demanding an independent international investigation into the genocide of Tamils by the Sri Lankan armed forces. “The same US Government, along with four other countries, moved a resolution that the grave issue of war crimes and violation of human rights by the Sri Lankan Government will be investigated by an independent international body. The resolution was adopted with the support of many countries, despite the fact that India and Pakistan abstained from voting."
