US rejects reports of failed Special Ops ground raid in Syria

The Pentagon and US military officials denied reports that the US led coalition  launched a Special Operations ground offensive on an Islamic State stronghold to free hostages on Friday.

Activist groups that witnessed the event said, "the mission failed when the helicopters were met by ISIS fighters who directly opened fire at them forcing them to take off.”

The Pentagon press secretary, rejecting rumours, said there was no ground operation or other form of raid involving US Special Operations troops, reports the
Washington Post.

One of the activist witnesses from the group ‘Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently, Abu Ibrahim al-Raqqaqi, said that two helicopters attempted to land amidst intense aerial drone activity on Thursday night.

Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently consists of Syrian activists that have been monitoring and documenting Islamic State activates in the militant group’s de-facto capital of Raqqa.
