Jen Psaki, spokesperson for the US State Department delivered the statment slamming the siege, especially in the town of Mouadimiya, noting,
"This siege has led to unprecedented reports of children dying of malnutrition-related causes in areas that are only a few miles from Bashar al-Assad's palace in Damascus."
"The regime has reportedly allowed a limited number of civilians to evacuate from these areas, but this is no substitute for allowing desperately needed food, water, and medicine to reach the thousands of trapped civilians who remain under siege."
"The people of Mouadimiya have been without basic necessities for nearly a year, and the regime’s deliberate prevention of the delivery of lifesaving humanitarian supplies to thousands of civilians is unconscionable."The statement also said,
"We also warn the regime to not repeat the massacres of Houla, Banyas, and Baida and to not use limited evacuations of civilians as an excuse to attack those residents who remain behind. Those who are responsible for atrocities in the Damascus suburbs and across Syria must be identified and held accountable."The BBC spoke to an 11-year-old boy in the suburb, who had said to them,
"We are bored of this. If they (government troops) want to attack us with chemical weapons - then just do it!
But can they make them with the smell of bread so we can die happy?"
