United Nations investigators have sought the postponement of a report examining allegations of war crimes committed during Israel's offensive into Gaza in 2014.
The investigation is being headed by Mary McGowan Davis, a former justice of the New York State Supreme Court, who has taken up the position after the resignation of William Schabas as chairman in February.
She told the council, "in this context, the Commission must analyze with the utmost objectivity the large number of additional submissions and documents received over the past few weeks from both sides, relating to the fact-finding dimension of our mandate."
The investigation was due to present its findings during the current session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, but investigators have now asked to present the report in June instead. The UN Human Rights Council President Joachim Ruecker said that he backed the request for a deferral, which is expected to be approved by the council later this month.
