Senior United Nations officials outlined the need for urgent action in the Central African Republic (CAR) to stop irreversible demographic changes, protect civilians and avoid a humanitarian disaster.
The Under Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Valerie Amos, addressing the United Nations Security Council, said,

“The situation in CAR remains extremely grave and urgent action by all including this Council is required to prevent further bloodshed. Unless the current trajectory Is urgently reversed, the demographic and social changes taking place in Car will have sever and lasting consequences for the country, the region and the continent.”
