Chinese police opened fire on Tibetan demonstrators protesting against the detention of a respected village leader, reports Reuters.
A Tibetan rights group said that 10 people were wounded by the shooting in the Ganzi prefecture of the South-Western province of Sichuan on Thursday.
The UK based International Campaign for Tibet (ICT) group said on Wednesday that the area “is now under tight control, with local Tibetans including the elderly and children subject to interrogation.”
Ganzi has seen some of the most violent clashes between the Tibetans and Chinese authorities. Chinese police also opened fire at a Tibetan gathering to mark the exiled Dali-Lama’s birthday last year.
