Tamil families of the disappeared protested in Jaffna today, renewing their calls for an international investigations into the enforced disappearances of their loved ones.
The families clutched photographs of their relatives as they demonstrated from Jaffna Muniyappa temple to Jaffna Central bus station.
"We cannot spend our entire lives searching for the disappeared. The international community should provide us with justice," the families chanted.
Tamil families of the disappeared have been campaigning for truth, justice and accountability for over a decade but successive Sri Lankan governments have failed to provide any answers on the whereabouts of the Tamils who were forcibly disappeared by the state's forces or government aligned paramilitary.
Due to the lack of progress on accountability through various domestic mechanisms, Tamils have been calling on the international community to intervene.
Despite years of campaigning, the families have been provided with few answers.
