Eleven powerful Syrian rebel groups have signed a statement denouncing the Western-backed Syrian National Coalition and called for a reorganisation of the opposition under “an Islamic framework based on sharia [law]”.
Included among the groups are the al-Qaida linked Jabhait-al-Nusra and a number of groups previously associated with the Istanbul-based Coalition.
