Syrian opposition say peace-talks unrealistic without end to siege and humanitarian aid

A prominent Syrian opposition politician said peace talks to begin on Jan 25 were unrealistic unless Assad’s sieges are lifted and humanitarian aid is allowed in for civilians, reports Reuters.

Responding to a statement by the UN Syria Envoy on Wednesday, George Sabra, said,

“I personally do not think Jan 25 is a realistic date for when it will be possible to remove all obstacles facing the negotiations.” There are still towns under siege. There are still Russian attacks on villages, schools and hospitals. There is no sign of goodwill.”

Other rebel groups issued a Statement on Wednesday saying they would not take part in peace talks unless attacks on civilians stop and humanitarian aid is given where need.
