Saudi Arabia has resumed air strikes on Houthi rebels, only a few hours after announcing and end to the attacks by the coalition it leads.
The government said on Tuesday the air strikes had “achieved its goals”, and the threat to Saudi Arabia was removed.
However Houthi rebels overran a base belonging to an army unit loyal to President Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi, outside the town of Taiz.
Saudi diplomatic sources told BBC Middle East editor Jeremy Bowen, that the air strikes had resumed because the Houthis "broke a promise" in Taiz.
The Saudis and their coalition partners said they reserved the right to use air power again when they announced the end of "Operation Decisive Storm" on Tuesday.
"There might be less frequency and the scope of the action might be less, but there will be military action," spokespersonBrig Gen Assiri told a press conference in Riyadh.
