Ruto requests for ICC trial to be adjourned

The lawyers of Kenya’s deputy president, William Ruto, filed a request today that asked judges of the International Criminal Court to meet in an emergency session, to adjourn the deputy president's trial.

The lawyers outlined that Ruto was needed to deal with the aftermath of the terrorist attack on Kenyan civilians, stating,

“Mr Ruto is required to discharge his ordinary constitutional duties. Thereafter, Mr Ruto will be required to deal with the aftermath of such a traumatic and tragic event for Kenya.”

The court will decide on Monday if Ruto will be allowed to return to Kenya to help deal with the armed occupation of the Nairobi shopping mall, which as resulted in the death of 59 civilians.
