The United Nations Human Rights Chief, Navi Pillay, warned today that ethnic rifts between the Christian and Muslim communities in Central African Republic had reached a ‘terrifying level.’
Speaking during her visit to the region, the human rights chief, urged the international community to immediately mobilise the proposed 12000 troop UN peacekeeping force to help halt the ongoing atrocities in the region.

“The inter-communal hatred remains at a terrifying level. There is almost total impunity: no justice, no law and order apart from that provided by foreign troops.”
“If we get it wrong again, by failing to support this country wholeheartedly in its time of need, we risk decades of instability and the creation of a new fertile breeding ground for religious extremism, not just in CAR but in the wider region.”
