The International Criminal Court (ICC) announced today that a preliminary investigation into allegations of crimes against humanity had begun, reports Reuters.
Though Ukraine has not ratified the statute which makes it answerable to the ICC, special permission has been granted that give the court jurisdiction over crimes committed from 21 November 2013 to 22 February 2014.
The ICC will investigate alleged cases of crimes against humanity committed by the former Ukrainian President’s troops during anti-government protests in Kiev.
