Sri Lanka’s former foreign minister Ravi Karunayake, who stepped down from the role amidst allegations of corruption, said he had done so to safeguard the president and prime minister, as he met with Buddhist monks in Kandy today.
Mr Karunayake called on the Mahanayake Thera of Asgiriya Chapter where he said he quit to protect the “good names of President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe,” reports The Island.
The former foreign minister was accompanied by Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe alongside several other ministers and parliamentarians.
Adaderana reports Sri Lanka’s Acting State Minister of Foreign Affairs Vasantha Senanayake as stating a new foreign minister would be appointed in the net two days.
