The Chief Executive of Hong Kong Leung Chun-ying has said that he welcomed the prospect of new talks with pro-democracy protestors, who have occupied parts of the city for almost 3 weeks.
Leung told reporters,
Last week Hong Kong's Chief Secretary Carrie Lam cancelled talks that she was due to have with protestors.
Commenting on the Leung's remarks, Federation of Students leader Alex Chow said
Leung told reporters,
"Over the last few days, including this morning through third parties, we expressed a wish to the students that we would like to start a dialogue to discuss universal suffrage as soon as we can and hopefully within the following week."However, he added that he was not in a position to offer any new concessions, saying, “we can’t make something unconstitutional constitutional.”

“If [Leung] is offering to talk but at the same time [is] ordering police to clear the scene violently, the people know how sincere he is.”Meanwhile a video emerged of plain clothes police officers arresting and then assaulting a student protestor. Senior superintendent Kong Man-keung, commented on the video saying,
"If any individual officer is suspected of using excessive force, police will investigate it in a just and impartial manner."The US has called for an investigation into the incident.
