Leaders of the G7 major economies agreed to intensify sanctions against Russia this weekend, reports The Guardian.
A statement released by several heads of states and senior officials, including David Cameron, Barack Obama and Angela Merkal, and expressed ‘deep concern at the continued efforts by separatists backed by Russia to destabilise eastern Ukraine.’
The new sanctions, which are likely to be imposed this week, will target individuals or companies within the banking and energy sectors. The US is expected to list its sanctions as soon early as Monday with the EU releasing their comprehensive list later this week.

“The leaders also agreed that Russia had not reciprocated – including by not publicly supporting the Geneva accord, nor calling on armed militant groups to lay down their arms and leave the government buildings they’ve occupied – and had in fact continued to escalate the situation through its increasingly concerning rhetoric and threatening military exercises on Ukraine’s border.”
