The ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) has been involved in electoral fraud during the July 2013 national elections, suggests recent research by Human Rights Watch.
The Asia director of Human Rights Watch, Brad Adams, confirmed that,
“Senior ruling party officials appear to have been involved in registering voters in multiple province. And people from the party seem to have been turning up in places where they clearly don’t live and insisting on voting- not to mention the many other claims of fraud around the country.”
“Issuing hundreds of thousands of fake identity certificates was allegedly one of several key ways the ruling party organised large scale election fraud.”
A CPP official, who asked to remain anonymous, told Human Rights Watch that , authorities engaged in fraud by issuing fraudulent voting certificates using the names of dead or missing persons. Villagers also told the rights group that they
Human rights watch suggested that the elections should promptly investigated by an independent commission.
