China's president lands in US to boost trade ties

China’s president Xi Jinping landed in the US on Tuesday to commence a week-long US visit that will include meetings with SU business leaders, reports Reuters.

Mr Jinping is expected to meet US government and business leaders to seek bi-lateral agreements and improve relations between the two economies.

A military-to-military confidence building agreement is expected to be reached between the two nations, as well as attempts to reduce the tensions in the South China Sea.

Mr Jinping will also seek to assure the US that its slowing economy will not affect world markets after its recent loosening of controls on its currency had knock on effects in global markets.

The US is also expected to urge the Chinese to avoid “quick fixes” to its economy, such as devaluing its currency to boost exports.
