The agreement signed by 10 groups and the CAR defence ministry on Sunday at the country’s capital, Bangui, also detailed that those involved in the ’crime of genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity’ would be denied amnesty.
The agreement also saw the armed groups commit to renouncing armed conflict.
Outlining processes that all factions had agree to implement for the ceasefire, the agreement said,
“They are committed to disposing their arms and renouncing armed fighting as a means of making political claims and to enter the process of Disarmament, Demobilisation, Reinsertion and Repatriation (DDRR).”
A UN official, Babacar Gaye, commenting on the agreement, said,
“On the path towards peace, the step made today is a very important one.”
