Bosnian war crimes suspect to face extradition from US

A US court has deemed that Almaz Nezirevic, a prison guard from Bosnia who is suspected of committing war crimes, can be extradited to Bosnia due to a sufficient amount of evidence against him.

Nezirevic has resided in the US, in Virginia, for over fifteen years.

In 1992, whilst working at Rabic detention centre in Derventa in Northern Bosnia, Nezirevic reportedly used a rifle and baton to beat prisoners and forced them to crawl on the floor and ear grass urinated on.

The US Attorney, Timothy J. Heaphy, said:
"Almaz Nezirovic stands charged with horrific acts of torture by the government of Bosnia and Herzegovina."

"This ruling moves this matter one step closer to ultimate resolution in that country."
