AU to call for suspension of ICC cases whilst leaders are in power

The African Union is set to ask the International Criminal Court, to suspend cases against the presidents of Kenya and Sudan while they remain in office, officials have said today.

Ethiopia’s foreign minister, Tedros Adhanom, confirmed that the delegations at the AU summit had agreed that heads of state and government should not be prosecuted whilst in office.

Officials also reiterated that they would not go as far as endorsing calls for a mass walk out form the ICC.
