Two more arrested in Jaffna over police officers attack

A further two men were arrested on Thursday in connection with an attack on police officers in Kopay last month.

Two police officers of Koppay police station were reportedly attacked around 1.30pm on July 30 by over ten men on four motorcycles while walking down Nanthavil Amman Kovil road.

Yogarasa Sajith, known as Muttu and Arul Seelan Patrick Dinesh were arrested by officers in Jaffna today. Both are 18 years old.

Earlier this week, Jaffna and Kopay police arrested 20 year old Thavarasa Madushan and 23 year old Vijayarathnam Sivaraj.

The arrests come after the Inspector General of Police said that military would be deployed in a search and arrest strategy to combat recent attacks on police constables in Jaffna.
