Tamil youth in Norway protest against Jaffna Uni arrests

Norwegian Tamil youth held a peaceful demonstration on Tuesday with lights and banners, protesting against the arrest of students at the Jaffna University.

Led by the Tamil Youth Organisation Bergen, the protesters condemned the Sri Lankan military's brutal attack on students in Jaffna.

In a statement, TYO Bergen said, "most importantly this demonstration was held to show support to our fellow students and their right to freedom of speech and self-determination."

Addressing the protest, Norwegian and Tamil political figures reiterated the importance of freedom of speech, and called on the United Nations and the international community to exert meaningful pressure on the Sri Lankan state.

Despite the risks, our team on the ground remain committed to providing detailed and accurate reporting of developments in the Tamil homeland, across the island and around the world, as well as providing expert analysis and insight from the Tamil point of view
