Swiss discuss former LTTE cadres with Sri Lankan military

Swiss government officials met with members of the Sri Lankan military in Jaffna last month, where they discussed the ‘rehabilitation’ of former LTTE cadres.

A meeting was held between Andreas Schmid, country analyst at State Secretariat for Migration in Switzerland and Gisela Schluep, First Secretary (Migration) of the Embassy of Switzerland at the Sri Lankan security headquarters in Jaffna on the 19th of September, reports an official military website.

“The cordial meeting was meant to understand the prevailing status-quo in regard to rehabilitated former combatants and identify their success and challenges at social, economic and psychological fronts,” said the military website.

It went on to conclude, “Both delegates thanked the Jaffna Commander for educating them on the matters related to those combatants before their departure”.
