Sri Lankan troops hand drinks to mourning Tamils to commemorate end of 'terrorism'

Sri Lankan soldiers posted in the Tamil homeland, handed out drinks to Tamils on their way to commemoration ceremonies for those massacred by the very same security forces yesterday.

The official military website said the move was “organized to invoke merits to their fallen tri service comrades”.

Another miltary website stated  it was organised in "commemoration of War Heroes who have sacrificed their lives to liberate the country from the clutches of Terrorism".

Sri Lankan military officers were seen to be flagging down vehicles leaving the Mullivaikkaal event, before offering the passengers drinks.

Soldiers displayed a sign in broken Tamil at one of their stands.

Vehicles carrying university students and youths were stopped in particular, raising fears within local civil society groups of intelligence gathering.
