Sri Lankan army coordinates distribution of artificial limbs to war affected Tamil civilians

Security Force Headquarters-Mullaitivu (SFHQ-MLT) coordinated and distributed artificial limbs to 48 war-affected civilians at Mullivaikkal School.

The initiative was sponsored by Kandy-based Centre for the Handicapped. SFHQ-MLT undertook a similar project in July, in which they distributed 25 artificial limbs.

Major General Dampath Fernando, SFHQ-MLT personnel, sponsors, community leaders and civilians were present at the distribution ceremony.

An official army website reported the donation "could be considered as a gesture of humanity, reconciliation and goodwill" by the Sri Lankan security forces.

Sri Lanka is one of the most dangerous places in the world to be a journalist. Tamil journalists are particularly at threat, with at least 41 media workers known to have been killed by the Sri Lankan state or its paramilitaries during and after the armed conflict.

Despite the risks, our team on the ground remain committed to providing detailed and accurate reporting of developments in the Tamil homeland, across the island and around the world, as well as providing expert analysis and insight from the Tamil point of view

We need your support in keeping our journalism going. Support our work today.
