Eastern Province to be brought under governor until elections held

The Eastern Province is to be brought under the administration of the governor after its term of office ends on September 26 until elections are held, the Local Government and Provincial Councils Minister Faizer Musthapha was quoted by the Daily Mirror as saying.

Provincial Councils of Sabaragamuwa and North Central will also be brought under the administration of their respective governors.

Mr Musthapha said, "elections for the three PCs could not be held until the delimitation process was over and expressed hopes that the government would be in a position to finish the job by March 2018 making way for the elections commission to conduct polls for the three PCs in March."
