Sri Lankan army strengthens High Security Zone in Valikaamam North

The Sri Lankan army is engaged in fortifying the Valikaamam North High Security Zone, despite previous government statements that the area of land would be released back to the local civilian population.

The existing wooden perimeter fence has been strengthened by the army with a concrete pillar fence.

The government had previously agreed to release 27 acres of land adjacent to Semandri Road, however, locals who remain displaced since the Sri Lankan army took over their lands, are now sceptical as to whether this will take place.
